MENTOR GRAPHICS CORP., $27.52, symbol MENT on Nasdaq, makes systems that improve the design of electronic products and speed up their development. Its clients operate in a range of industries. The company has bought Irish software-test maker Galaxy Semiconductor. Mentor has not disclosed the purchase price. Galaxy makes testing systems for computer chip manufacturers. Its products help those clients determine if their chips are functioning properly before they sell them to customers. As well, the operation offers software to analyze patterns and trends in defective chips. Galaxy has more than 7,500 clients worldwide. The majority of its 25 employees will now move over to Mentor. The company plans to combine its Tessent chip testing products with Galaxy’s products to offer a complete range of systems to clients. OUR RECOMMENDATION: Mentor Graphics is still a buy.
