Nissan deals with recall

NISSAN MOTOR (ADR) $18.97 (Nasdaq symbol NSANY; TSINetwork Rating: Above Average) (310-771-3111; www.nissan-global.com; ADRs o/s: 2.1 billion; Market cap: $40.4 billion; Dividend yield: 3.1%) has recalled nearly all the vehicles it sold in Japan over the past three years—about 1.2 million units—as a result of an improper vehicle inspection process. Nissan’s shares are down only 9% from the two-year high they hit in earlier September because the re-inspections are finding no safety issues. As well, the problems don’t affect overseas plants or vehicles exported from Japan. The estimated cost of the recalls is $222 million. The company will also have to move quickly to maintain its strong reputation with Japanese consumers. However, we think it will succeed. Nissan is still a buy. buy…
