It also offers banking services. In the quarter ended March 31, 2017, the company’s revenue rose 8.0%, to $2.8 billion from $2.6 billion a year earlier. Earnings gained 18.2%, to $468 million from $396 million. Due to fewer shares outstanding, per-share earnings jumped 23.5%, to $1.21 from $0.98. These gains are partly due to last year’s acquisition of General Electric’s asset management business for $485 million. This operation manages pension plans and other portfolios for institutional investors. As well, State Street’s assets under custody and management also rose 10.7%, to $29.8 trillion from a year earlier.
