TD adds bond expertise

TD BANK $83.66 is a buy. The bank (Toronto symbol TD; Shares o/s: 1.8 billion; Market cap: $151.8 billion; TSINetwork Rating: Above Average; Dividend yield: 3.8%; www.td.com) has now agreed to buy Headlands Tech Global Markets. This private firm makes software that automates the electronic trading of municipal and corporate bonds. The acquisition helps TD expand in those bond markets. But more important, Headland Tech’s expertise will let it improve the efficiency of its bond-trading operations, which still require traders to manually enter data. Founded in 2013, Headlands Tech has offices in Chicago and San Francisco. Following the completion of the deal, its 15 employees, including co-CEOs Martin Mannion and Matthew Schrager, will be joining TD Securities. Assuming regulators approve the takeover, TD expects to complete the purchase in mid-2021. The bank has not yet said how much it’s paying for this business. TD Bank is a buy. buy…
