Village Farms is one of the largest and longest-operating greenhouse growers in North America. It produces and distributes its fresh, premium-quality produce, including tomatoes and peppers, in the U.S. and Canada. Those crops are grown across its 9 million square feet of greenhouse space in B.C. and Texas as well as at the B.C., Ontario and Mexico greenhouses of its partners. The company is now using its 30 years of experience to grow cannabis through its 58.7% majority ownership of B.C.-based Pure Sunfarms Corp. It also plans to expand into U.S. hemp-derived CBD—a non-intoxicating cannabis compound with medicinal applications. Village Farms has established joint ventures Village Fields Hemp, Arkansas Valley Green and Gold Hemp for outdoor hemp cultivation and CBD extraction. It is also pursuing high-quality greenhouse hemp production at a portion of its Texas greenhouse operations. These moves should put Village Farms on the path to higher sales and eventually profit.
