It converts (and sells) these substances to useful chemicals such as sulphuric acid. In the first quarter of 2019, revenue rose 1.0%, to $385.3 million from $381.5 million a year earlier. Higher prices for the company’s sulphuric acid and water solutions products offset the lower prices it received for its caustic soda. However, Chemtrade’s cash flow fell 79.3%, to $0.12 a unit (or a total of $11.5 million) from $0.58 a unit (or $54.1 million). That’s because the company paid $40.0 million in the latest quarter to settle a second class-action lawsuit alleging anti-competitive conduct related to General Chemical; in late 2018, Chemtrade paid $51.0 million U.S. to settle a separate lawsuit.
