EXTENDICARE INC. $10.09 (Toronto symbol EXE; TSINetwork Rating: Extra Risk) (905-470-5534; www.extendicare.com; Shares outstanding: 88.8 million; Market cap: $896.0 million; Dividend yield: 4.8%) owns 65 senior-care facilities in Canada. Together, they can house 8,686 residents on both a longand short-term basis. The company manages another 46 residences across the country that are home to 5,693 seniors. Extendicare also operates 40 ParaMed Home Health Care branches in six provinces. ParaMed’s 10,900 staff members provide nursing care and other assistance to clients who remain in their own homes. In the three months ended March 31, 2017, the company’s revenue rose 5.7%, to $268.9 million from $254.4 million a year earlier. Cash flow rose 2.8%, to $13.5 million, or $0.143 a share, from $10.4 million, or $0.14. Provinces regulate nursing homes, and they also provide substantial funding.
