New ETFs for Canadian ‘crypto’ investors

This month we take a look at new cryptocurrency ETFs from CI First Asset. CI Global Asset Management recently launched the third Canadian ETF that invests in the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, the CI Galaxy Bitcoin Fund $10.11 (Toronto symbol BTCX). The ETF currently holds assets worth $298.1 million. The fund launched on March 5, 2021, and it charges a management fee of 0.40%. The fee is considerably lower than the 1.0% and 0.75% charged respectively by Purpose Investments and Evolve for their bitcoin ETFs. On April 20, 2021, CI launched another crypto ETF, namely the CI Galaxy Ethereum ETF $18.38 (Toronto symbol ETHX). This was the first ETF in the world (together with two others) to invest directly in Ether, the cryptocurrency built on the Ethereum blockchain. On the same day, the Purpose Ether ETF (symbol ETHH) and the Evolve Ether ETF (symbol ETHR) were also listed in Toronto. Canada already has six cryptocurrency ETFs with rapidly growing assets.
