It also produces automation systems and robotics for industrial clients. In 2017, the company made five acquisitions for a total of $2.1 billion. The biggest was Bernecker+Rainer (B+R). Based in Austria, that firm makes machinery and software to help industrial firms automate their factories. B+R will add $600 million to ABB’s annual revenue. Thanks to its new businesses, overall revenue in the quarter ended March 31, 2018, rose 9.8%, to $8.6 billion from $7.9 billion a year earlier. Earnings per ADR gained 10.7%, to $0.31 from $0.28 (Each ADR, or American Depositary Receipt, represents one common ABB share). ABB is a buy.
