AT&T INC., $27.82, New York symbol T, is a top pick for 2020. The company is the largest wireless carrier in the U.S. It also offers traditional phone and satellite TV services. AT&T last raised its quarterly dividend with the February 2020 payment. Investors now receive $0.52 a share, up 2.0% from $0.51. The new annual rate of $2.08 yields a high 7.5%. The company has increased that annual investor payment for 36 consecutive years. In June 2018, it purchased media giant Time Warner (now called WarnerMedia) for $103 billion in cash and stock. The company plans to use WarnerMedia’s content to attract more users for its wireless and TV services. In the quarter ended September 30, 2020, AT&T’s revenue fell 5.0%, to $42.34 billion from $44.59 billion a year earlier. That drop is mainly because the COVID-19 pandemic has hurt advertising revenue at WarnerMedia’s broadcast and cable TV operations.
