New Flyer Industries, $7.94, symbol NFI.UN on Toronto (Units outstanding: 47.3 million; Market cap: $375.6 million), is a Winnipeg-based company that makes transit buses. New Flyer also provides parts and service. The company has one plant in Winnipeg and two in Minnesota. New Flyer offers a range of buses, including diesel, natural gas and electric, as well as energy-efficient gasoline-electric and diesel-electric hybrid models. New Flyer first sold units to the public at $10 and began trading on Toronto in August 2005. In the three months ended September 30, 2008, New Flyer’s revenues rose 26.8%, to $263.7 million from $208 million on higher production spurred by a rise in orders (all figures except unit price and market cap in U.S. dollars). However, cash flow fell 14.3%, to $15.7 million from $18.4 million a year earlier as manufacturing costs rose.
