Aurcana Corp., $0.69, symbol AUN on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 467.2 million; Market cap: $322.4 million; www.aurcana.com), operates two mines: the 99.9%-owned La Negra silver-zinc-copper-lead project in Mexico and the 100%-owned Shafter silver mine in Texas. La Negra produced 2.5 million ounces of silver equivalent (including zinc, lead and copper) in 2012. To boost the mine’s production, the company is increasing its milling capacity by 20%, to 3,000 tons per day from 2,500. The La Negra property holds as much as 171.6 million ounces of silver, 2.1 million pounds of zinc, 802.5 million pounds of lead and 401.8 million pounds of copper. There is also room to further add to its reserves through exploration drilling. The Shafter mine started up in December 2012 and is forecast to produce 3.8 million ounces of silver per year.
