A: Ivanhoe Mines, $1.12, symbol IVN on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 772.2 million; Market cap: $864.9 million; www.ivanhoemines.com), changed its name from Ivanplats Ltd. in 2013. The company first sold shares to the public and began trading on the Toronto exchange at $4.75 in October 2012. Ivanhoe has three main development projects focused on copper, zinc and platinum. All three have sites in Africa, specifically South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The company is also studying the possibility of reopening its 68%-owned Kipushi site, a zinc-copper production area in the DRC. It has been in operation, on and off, since 1924. Ivanhoe’s preliminary economic assessment of the property in May 2016 calls for a new $528 million U.S. mine. The company is also evaluating its 64%-held Platreef platinum discovery in South Africa. As well, its 47%-owned Kamoa copper project in the DRC may have one of world’s biggest deposits…
