A: Parkland Fuel Corp., $42.10, symbol PKI on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 147.0 million; Market cap: $6.3 billion, www.parkland.ca), operates gas stations, convenience stores, and a fuel-distribution business in Canada, the U.S., and the Caribbean. The company is the largest supplier of fuel and petroleum products in Canada and in the Caribbean. Parkland’s head office is in Calgary, Alberta. The company’s retail-fuel and convenience store banners include Ultramar, Esso, Fas Gas Plus, Chevron, Pioneer, On the Run, and Marché Express. Its commercial and wholesale fuels business sells under the brands Bluewave Energy, Chevron, Pipeline, Esso, Sparlings, Ultramar and others. Parkland has grown its business through a strategy of acquisition. In 2016, it acquired 17 Esso stations in Saskatchewan and Manitoba as part of Imperial Oil’s divestiture of its retail gasoline business.
