McEwen Mining Inc., $2.22, symbol MUX on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 258.6 million; Market cap: $583.4 million; www.mcewenmining.com), owns 49% of the San Jose mine in Santa Cruz, Argentina; the El Gallo mine in Sinaloa, Mexico; the Gold Bar project in Nevada; the Los Azules copper project in San Juan, Argentina; and a portfolio of exploration properties in Argentina, Mexico and Nevada. Rob McEwen, the former chairman of Goldcorp, is the company’s CEO and owns 25% of its shares. US Gold Corp. changed its name to McEwen Mining in October 2011, after it bought Minera Andes for $621.9 million. Minera Andes investors received 0.4 of a US Gold stock for each of their shares. The company completed the first phase of construction at El Gallo in September 2012, and the mine is forecast to produce 27,500 ounces of gold in 2013.
