Dear Inner Circle member, Here’s the text of the most-recent letter I sent to our Portfolio Management clients in late April: “To succeed as an investor, you need to be able to “cut through the noise”. That is, you need to sort through the news to find what’s worth your attention, and disregard the rest. This is harder than it sounds, because the time-wasting “noise” can strike at your emotions. That’s especially true with U.S. political news, which is crafted by politicians and the media to touch voters on an emotional level. The noise level surged following the surprise result of the November 2016 U.S. Presidential election. When reading the U.S. political news today, you need to keep in mind that journalists and publications overwhelmingly favoured Clinton. She got a total of 500 endorsements from U.S.-based daily and weekly newspapers, magazines and college publications, plus foreign publications; Trump got 27. (“Not Donald Trump” got 30.)
