A: AquaBounty Technologies, $11.15, symbol AQB on Nasdaq (Shares outstanding: 8.9 million; Market cap: $109.5 million; www.aquabounty.com), is a biotechnology company focused on enhancing productivity in aquaculture. Intrexon Corporation (symbol XON on New York) owns 58.1% of the company’s outstanding shares. Aquabounty began trading on Nasdaq in January 2017. Before that, the company traded on the AIM small-cap market in the U.K. So far, AquaBounty is only a development-stage company with no revenues. It has, however, produced a genetically modified salmon that has now won approval for sale as food in both Canada and the U.S. The GMO salmon grows twice as fast as wild salmon. AquaBounty hopes to begin marketing its fish by late 2017. However, in the U.S., a group of environmental, consumer, and commercial and recreational fishing organizations have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over its approval of that genetically modified salmon.
