The fund started up on September 23, 2013. Its MER is 1.25%. The fund trades at a slight discount to the value of its assets. As a general rule, the safest bonds are issued by, or guaranteed, by federal governments. Next are provincial or state issues of bonds, with provincial or state guarantees. After that come corporate bonds. The risk on corporate bonds varies widely. Some corporates are almost as safe as government bonds and offer only slightly higher yields.
