GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO., $15.02, symbol GT on Nasdaq, is one of the world’s largest tiremakers, with 47 plants in 21 countries. Europe’s Airbus has now selected the company to supply ultra-lightweight Flight Radial tires for the aircraft manufacturer’s new A321XLR model. The contract is for both the plane’s main and nose landing gear. Goodyear’s tires feature its Alloy Core Bead Technology as well as strong, rigid tread belts with enhanced rubber; that offers dimensional stability, longer service life and increased cut resistance. The company is already a leading supplier of aviation tires for commercial, military and general aviation aircraft. Demand for radial aviation tires continues to rise as airlines rapidly begin to replace the bias tires on their aircraft with lighter and more flexible tires. Those characteristics make radials more suitable for aircraft landings. The world’s aviation fleet is also projected to double in size over the next 20 years.
