THOMSON REUTERS CORP., $101.70, Toronto symbol TRI, remains a buy. The company now focuses on selling specialized information and software to the legal, tax and accounting fields. That follows the sale of 55% of its Refinitiv financial information business to Blackstone Group LP (New York symbol BX) on October 1, 2018 for $17 billion U.S. To put that amount in context, Thomson’s current market cap is $50.0 billion (Canadian). The company also owns the Reuters news service. As part of that plan, Thomson has acquired CaseLines for an undisclosed amount. CaseLines converts legal documents to a digital form and makes them available to courts and lawyers over the Internet through a cloud-based system. Reducing the need for paper documents should help speed up the processing of cases during the COVID-19 pandemic.
