Telus continues to focus mainly on its core telephone operations. That’s unlike other North American telecoms, which have long pushed into ancillary businesses like TV broadcasting. The company has instead invested in businesses that fall under its main telecom umbrella. These include Telus International, which operates call centres on behalf of corporate clients. It also helps those clients manage their computer systems. In February 2021, Telus set up this business as a separate company and sold shares in it to the public. So far, the new stock has moved mostly sideways, partly due to the impact of the pandemic on business spending. Even so, long-term prospects for Telus International remain bright. Meantime, parent company Telus has other smaller businesses that its could eventually take public, which would further unlock value for investors.
