Yamana gets a debt upgrade

YAMANA GOLD, $6.37, is a buy. The company (Toronto symbol YRI; Rating: Speculative) (yamana.com; Shares o/s: 961.0 million; Market cap: $6.2 billion; Yield: 2.4%) now plans to seek better terms from its lenders. That’s after an upgrade from debt-rating service S&P Global Ratings. S&P raised Yamana to investment grade (albeit its lowest investment-grade rating). S&P cited an expectation that the company will maintain low debt levels over the next several years. It also upgraded its view on Yamana’s resilience to potential future declines in gold prices.
