The stock symbol remained the same. Canoe EIT is a closed-end fund that invests in a portfolio of stocks that are mainly listed on the Toronto exchange, with a focus on dividend income. The fund trades at a 16.6% discount to its net asset value and has an MER of 1.45%. The fund’s top holdings are TD Bank, Bank of Nova Scotia, Royal Bank of Canada, CN Rail, Crescent Point Energy, Telus, Microsoft, Boeing, Encana and Wells Fargo. Canoe EIT has 33.8% of its assets in finance stocks and 25.1% in oil and gas firms....

DEVON ENERGY CORP., $62.57, symbol DVN on New York, is paying GeoSouthern Energy $6 billion for oil-producing assets and other properties in Texas’s Eagle Ford shale formation. This purchase consists of 53,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day of production (including natural gas) and 82,000 acres of land with at least 1,200 undrilled locations. Peak production is expected to reach as much as 140,000 barrels a day within five years. To put these figures in perspective, Devon’s output averaged 691,000 barrels a day in the three months ended September 30, 2013....
J.P. MORGAN CHASE & CO., $57.46, New York symbol JPM, has agreed to settle a number of lawsuits with the U.S. Justice Department related to securities backed by subprime mortgages. Morgan, Bear Stearns and Washington Mutual sold these investments during the pre-2008 housing boom. When real estate values fell and borrowers defaulted on their mortgages, the value of these securities plunged. Morgan acquired Bear Stearns and Washington Mutual in 2008, after they collapsed, but it is still liable for these lawsuits, which claim these companies deliberately understated the risk of these investments. Under the settlement, Morgan will pay $9 billion in cash to federal and state agencies. In addition, it will reduce the principal owed on current mortgages, reduce the payment on other loans, and demolish abandoned properties. In all, these concessions total $4 billion....
