In 2024, Ovintiv expects to spend between $2.1 billion and $2.5 billion on exploration and equipment upgrades (all amounts except share price and market cap in U.S. dollars); that’s down from the $2.76 billion it likely spent in 2023. The decline is partly due to recent asset sales. The company is also benefiting from innovations that improve its efficiency, including its “trimulfrac” technique, which lets it drill three wells simultaneously.
