GRAYSCALE BITCOIN TRUST ETF $62.47 (New York symbol GBTC) is the largest ETF investing in the cryptocurrency bitcoin. It has over $23 billion of assets under management. The fund has been operational since 2013 and became the first publicly traded bitcoin fund in 2015. The fund manager applied to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2017 to convert the trust to an ETF. The conversion was aimed at eliminating the large occasional discounts to the net assets held in the trust, which is common for close-ended funds. The discount was estimated at almost 50% in late 2022. The SEC recently approved the Grayscale conversion, as well as greenlighting the listing of 10 other Bitcoin ETFs. All these ETFs began trading on January 11, 2024. Notably, the Grayscale ETF carries the highest management fee of all the listed bitcoin ETFs at 1.50%.
