BROADCOM INC. $901 is a buy for aggressive investors. The company (Nasdaq symbol AVGO; Manufacturing sector; Shares outstanding: 412.7 million; Market cap: $371.8 billion; Dividend yield: 2.0%; Takeover Target Rating: Medium; www.broadcom.com) designs, develops and sells semiconductors (computer chips) and infrastructure software. Its products include chips for datacentre networking and storage, enterprise software, and mainframe and cybersecurity software. In May 2022, Broadcom agreed to acquire VMware Inc. (New York symbol VMW) for $69 billion. VMware provides virtualization and cloud computing software and services. Due to delays securing approval from U.S. competition regulators, the companies have agreed to extend the deadline to complete the transaction to August 26, 2023. Regulators in Canada, Australia, Brazil, South Africa and Taiwan have already approved the purchase. After the deal closes, Broadcom’s software business will account for about half of its revenue, up from 33% currently.
