Calian rises on contract wins

CALIAN TECHNOLOGIES $13.20 (Toronto symbol CTY; SI Rating: Speculative) (613-599- 8600;; Shares outstanding: 8.4 million; Market cap: $110.0 million) has moved up recently after signing a series of new contracts. Calian operates in two areas: personnel resourcing and communications systems. This includes offering a full range of hardware and software systems for testing, operating and managing satellite and other communications systems. The latest contract is for over $15 million to develop satellite earth stations for a new mobile communications network covering North America. Calian has also announced a new $3 million contract with the Canadian Department of National Defense. The contract is to provide inspection and repair services for 150 wheeled light armoured vehicles in Wainwright, Alberta. The company has also won a $3.6 million U.S. contract with the US Navy to provide professional, technical, and administrative services in support of the Spanish Air Force’s foreign military sales program.
