Based on test drilling, the find looks promising. However, offshore drilling is very expensive, and it would take years before any pumping of oil can take place. Meantime, APA is selling less-important properties to pay down its long-term debt, from $7.3 billion at the end of 2021 to $5.76 billion as of March 31, 2022, or 49% of its market cap. That adds risk, as rising interest rates could add to its debt servicing costs. The company also held cash of $234 million. APA Corp. is a hold.
