Pelangio Exploration, $0.95, symbol PX on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 121.8 million; Market cap: $115.7 million, www.pelangio.com), is focused on its 290-square-kilometre Obuasi property in Ghana. The property is located “along strike,” and adjacent to multinational gold miner AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi mine. That mine has produced over 30 million ounces of gold since 1897. Gold veins can end suddenly or stretch for thousands of feet. Properties located in the direction of open veins are said to be “along strike.” Properties next to existing mines can host significant gold deposits, or they may contain no gold at all. Pelangio hopes that the veins from the Obuasi mine extend into its property. Pelangio also owns the 290-square-kilometre Manfo property in Ghana, located 12 kilometres south of Newmont’s Ahafo mine, and 50 kilometres north of Red Back’s Chirano mine. Pelangio owns gold prospects in Ontario as well. The company’s management has had some success in finding mineable deposits.
