TransGlobe Apartment REIT, $11.05, symbol TGA.UN on Toronto (Units outstanding: 24.7 million; Market cap: $273.3 million; www.tgareit.com), owns apartments and townhouses in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The REIT yields 6.7%. TransGlobe began trading on Toronto at $10.30 a unit on May 14, 2010. In the three months ended March 31, 2011, TransGlobe’s cash flow was $0.22 a unit. There are no comparable year-earlier results. TransGlobe just paid $98.6 million for a complex of seven buildings, known as Samuel Holland, in Quebec City. The properties consist of five high-rise buildings, one mid-rise building and one low-rise building. In all, these buildings contain 819 apartments and about 162,000 square feet of commercial space. As well, the REIT has agreed to buy a three-storey, 105-suite apartment building in Moncton, New Brunswick, for $8.2 million. The property is close to TransGlobe’s other properties in Moncton.
