TriQuint Semiconductor, $14.25, symbol TQNT on Nasdaq (Shares outstanding: 155.6 million; Market cap: $2.2 billion; www.triquint.com), designs and makes a range of computer chips. Its customers include companies in the wireless communications, telecommunications, data communications and aerospace industries. TriQuint’s overall results continue to improve. Strong sales growth at its mobile-devices and networks divisions is offsetting slower growth at the defense and aerospace group. Samsung, the world’s second-largest handset manufacturer, has selected TriQuint to supply chips for certain parts of its new Samsung Galaxy Tab smartphone. TriQuint also provides products for Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphone series. This new contract, as well as Triquint’s other smartphone contracts, will increase its sales and earnings. The shares are up 150% since July 2010. Triquint trades at 14.8 times the $0.96 a share that the company is forecast to earn this year. Triquint is okay for aggressive investors to hold. …
