Carmanah Technologies, $0.58, symbol CMH on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 42.5 million; Market cap: $24.6 million; www.carmanah.com), makes and sells solar-powered light emitting diode (LED) lighting and solar-power systems. The company’s solar-powered LED light beacons are used for marine navigation and marking hazards on waterways. They are also used on runways and roads, and include school-zone flashers, lighting for transit stops and traffic signs that are internally lit. Carmanah also makes lighting for industrial users, including warning lights, equipment-marking lights, and lights to mark railway tracks and bridges. Carmanah’s solar-power systems include: 1) Off-grid solar-power systems and “balance of system” components for clients in a range of industries, including telecommunications, oil and gas, and security. 2) Mobile solar-power systems for recreational vehicles, boats and trucks. 3) Solar-power systems that are tied to the electrical grid.
