It also produces automation systems and robotics for industrial clients.
ABB is selling its high-voltage cable operations to Denmark-based NKT Cables for $934 million. It expects to complete the sale in early 2017.
Activist investment firm Cevian Capital, which owns 5.4% of the company, still wants ABB to set up the rest of its power grid business as a separate company. ABB is currently conducting a strategic review of all its businesses, and could announce a spinoff by the end of this year.
