SteelCloud Inc., $0.23, symbol SCLD on Nasdaq (Shares outstanding: 14.8 million; Market cap: $3.4 million), makes custom-designed computer servers. SteelCloud also sells network-security software and consulting services. Among SteelCloud’s customers are U.S. government agencies, defence contractors and businesses looking for custom-designed computer systems. For example, in April 2008, SteelCloud won a contract to build a specialized server for a division of the U.S. Postal Service. Last June, SteelCloud launched SteelWorks Mobile, software that helps small- to mid-sized companies set up their own secure, in-house Blackberry networks. SteelWorks Mobile was developed in co-operation with Blackberry maker Research in Motion (symbol RIM on Toronto). Last March, SteelCloud announced that it had developed a secure server for a major software company working for the U.S. Department of Defense. The server is secured using a chip that uses encoded information to identify each computer on its network. The chip also protects the entire system from unauthorized changes.
