Cline Mining, $2.81, symbol CMK on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 162.2 million; Market cap: $455.9 million; www.clinemining.com), has received U.S. safety approval to begin full mining at its New Elk coal property in Colorado. The mine started up on a limited scale in December 2010. The company expects the mine’s coal production to reach three million tonnes a year by the end of 2011. The New Elk mine has reserves estimated at as high as 315 million tonnes of metallurgical coal (which is used in steelmaking). Last week, Cline announced a share issue at $2.75 each to raise $75 million. It will use the funds to complete the development of the New Elk mine. Cline’s costs are low, and its New Elk mine is in a favourable mining jurisdiction. The chance of a takeover by a larger coal company adds appeal. Cline Mining is okay for aggressive investors to hold. ..
