Canam Group, $7.13, symbol CAM on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 45.4 million; Market cap: $323.5 million),owns and operates 12 plants that design and make construction products, including steel joists and steel decking, concrete flooring systems and welded beams. Canam sells its products to clients in the commercial, industrial, institutional, multi-residential, and bridge and highway infrastructure markets. The company employs more than 2,500 people in Canada, the U.S., Romania and India. It also has partnerships with companies in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and China. In the three months ended September 30, 2009, Canam’s revenue fell 33.7%, to $144.7 million from $218.2 million. Earning fell 70.1%, to $4.4 million, or $0.10 a share, from $15 million, or $0.30 a share. The weak economy caused a slowdown in commercial and industrial construction; that was the main reason for the lower results.
