Standard Graphite, $0.32, symbol SGH on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 21.0 million; Market cap: $6.7 million; www.standardgraphite.com), owns 12 properties within known graphite districts in Quebec and Ontario. Among the company’s holdings is the former-producing Black Donald graphite mine in Ontario. The company changed its name from Orocan Resources in January 2012. Standard has started up its 2012 exploration program. The company recently raised $3 million in a share issue at $0.85 a share, so it has the funds to pursue its planned exploration activities. Long-term demand for graphite is positive. However, all of Standard’s properties are in the very early stages of exploration, and it’s long way away from even a preliminary feasibility study on a mine.
