Armada Data Corp., $0.41, symbol ARD on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 13.6 million; Market cap: $5.5 million), sells pricing data on cars and trucks to businesses and individuals. The company does this through the automotive-related web sites that it develops, owns and operates. Armada operates through five main divisions: 1) The Insurance Services division sells total-loss replacement-vehicle reports to major Canadian insurance companies. Twenty-six Canadian insurance firms use this service, including 8 of the 10 largest. 2) The Retail Services division sells new-car pricing data to consumers, mainly through Armada’s flagship web site, www.CarCostCanada.com. It also resells its data to other vendors, such as Consumers Union, the publisher of Consumer Reports magazine. Customers pay a $39.95 membership fee for this service, which gives them access to five pricing reports. The reports include the dealer-invoice price, less any factory holdbacks, non-advertised factory-to-dealer and factory-to-consumer cash incentives, customer rebates, and subsidized finance and lease-rate programs.
