A: Grande West Transportation Group Inc., $2.63, symbol BUS on the Toronto Venture Exchange (Shares outstanding: 69.1 million; Market cap: $108.9 million; www.grandewest.com), is a Canadian bus manufacturer of heavy-duty, mid-sized transit buses for sale in this country and the U.S. The company’s Vicinity bus is available in 27.5-, 30- and 35-foot models powered by diesel or compressed natural gas (CNG). They cost significantly less than a regular 40-foot transit bus and burn less fuel. Grande West doesn’t assemble the buses itself. It uses China’s Weichai Group to produce those vehicles in Yangzhou. The company first sold shares to the public and began trading on the Toronto Venture Exchange in December 2013 at $0.50 a share. Grande West reported its first revenue in 2013 when it delivered 15 Vicinity buses to BC Transit for $3.6 million. Revenue fell to $1.5 million in 2014 when it sold five buses.
