CVTech Group, $1.70, symbol CVT on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 71.0 million; Market cap: $120.7 million), owns and operates two main businesses: 1) Thirau Ltd. and its subsidiary, Thirau LLC, help build and maintain transmission and distribution lines for the electric-power industry, mainly in Quebec and the eastern U.S. Thirau Ltd.’s subsidiary, J.J.L. Deboisement Inc., keeps vegetation from interfering with power lines, and clears roads leading to power infrastructure. Thirau LLC’s wholly owned subsidiary, Riggs Distler & Company, Inc., provides maintenance and construction services to customers in utility and heavy-industrial markets. (CVTech Group bought Riggs Distler in July 2009.) 2) CVTech-IBC Inc. designs, makes and sells continuously variable power-transmission systems, or CVTs. CVTech-AAB mainly rebuilds crankshafts and cylinders, and distributes engine parts. CVTech has roughly 1,120 employees.
