ABB LTD. It also produces automation systems and robotics for industrial clients. In 2017, the company made five acquisitions for a total of $2.1 billion. The biggest was Bernecker+Rainer (B+R). Based in Austria, that firm makes machinery and software that industrial companies use to automate their factories. B+R will add $600 million to ABB’s annual revenue. Thanks to its new businesses, ABB’s revenue in the fourth quarter of 2017 rose 3.2%, to $9.28 billion from $8.99 billion a year earlier. Earnings per ADR were unchanged at $0.33.
