A: Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF, $85.68, symbol VIG on New York (Units outstanding: 33.7 million; Market cap: $2.2 billion; www.vanguard.com), aims to track the Nasdaq Dividend Achievers Select Index. The ETF has a low 0.09% MER. It started up in April 2006. Its top holdings include: Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo, Microsoft, Medtronic plc, McDonald’s Corp., 3M, CVS Health Corp., Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. and United Technologies. The Nasdaq Dividend Achievers Select Index is comprised of a group of 185 stocks with at least 10 consecutive years of increasing annual dividend payments. We have a high opinion of a long history of rising dividends, but we generally advise against basing an investment on any one investment consideration.
