Futuremed Healthcare Income Fund, $8.05, symbol FMD.UN on Toronto (Units outstanding: 15.2 million; Market cap: $122.6 million), distributes consumable nursing supplies and specialized equipment to long-term care facilities across Canada. Consumable nursing supplies, which include such things as products for wound care and incontinence, make up 87% of Futuremed’s revenue. The remaining 13% comes from sales of specialized equipment, such as patient beds, resident room furniture, and medical and diagnostic gear. The company makes 48% of its revenue in Ontario, 37% in Quebec, 8% in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and 7% in B.C. The fund first sold units to the public at $10, and began trading on Toronto in January 2006. Futuremed aims to be a “one-stop shop” for long-term care facilities’ medical-supply needs.
