Orezone Gold Corp., $4.05, symbol ORE on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 69.9 million; Market cap: $340.3 million; www.orezone.com), is focused on developing its Bombore gold project in Burkina Faso, in western Africa. Bombore contains as much as 3.5 million ounces of gold, with lots of room to add reserves through further exploration. Bombore is 85 kilometres from Ouagadougou, the capital of Mali. It’s near a paved highway, and has access to power and water. The company is now assessing whether to go ahead with a feasibility study on building a mine at the site. Once completed, a mine at Bombore would be able to produce 250,000 ounces of gold a year. As part of its assessment, Orezone is conducting a $24-million, 170-metre drill program this year. Orezone also has interests in other gold projects in Burkina Faso, and a recent uranium discovery in Niger. Operating in Burkina Faso entails above-average political risk.
