Active Control Technology, $0.28, symbol ACT on Toronto (Shares outstanding: 151.1 million; Market cap: $41.5 million), makes and sells wireless devices. These are mainly for communicating in mines, as well as securing and controlling access to buildings. The Burlington, Ontario-based company has three product lines: 1) ActiveMine tracks miners and equipment. It also provides clear, digital two-way voice communications with each miner. The system operates on a Wi-Fi (wireless local area) network. 2) ActiveSecure sells wireless voice networks for securing buildings and gated communities, and managing parking areas. ActiveSecure uses Active Control’s QuikMesh platform, which instantly reroutes wireless signals if they are obstructed. 3) ActiveMesh controls access to offices, warehouses, campuses and high-security complexes. Its wireless modules pass data and voice traffic between them when connecting wires have been disabled. The data then reaches a router that connects to a network.
