PRETIUM RESOURCES INC., $17.48, symbol PVG on Toronto, owns the Brucejack mine in British Columbia. It began operations in July 2017 and is one of the highest-grade gold mines in the world. The Brucejack mine produces around 300,000 ounces of gold annually. Last month, Pretium made a new high-grade gold discovery in the Golden Marmot zone of the Brucejack property. Australian-based Newcrest Mining Ltd., $22, symbol NCM on Toronto, is one of the world’s largest gold producers. It has mines in Australia, Canada, and Papua New Guinea. The stock trades on Toronto, but its main listing is on the Australian exchange. On November 9, 2021, Newcrest Mining announced that it would acquire those shares of Pretium that it didn’t already own for $18.50 a share or 0.8084 Newcrest shares for each share of Pretium. There is a cap of 50% cash and 50% Newcrest shares. Anyone who doesn’t make a choice will be given $9.25 in cash and 0.4042 Newcrest shares. At the…
