The company processes credit, debit, prepaid and commercial payments under the Visa, Visa Electron, Interlink and PLUS brands. The company often uses third-party payment processors, provided they comply with Visa’s security standards and other requirements. This week, one of these processors, Global Payments Inc. (New York symbol GPN), announced that online intruders had stolen credit card account numbers and other data belonging to 1.5 million Visa and MasterCard users in North America. The thieves didn’t take names or addresses, but they could still use the stolen information to make fake cards. In the wake of this breach, the company has dropped Global Payments from its list of authorized service providers.
