NCR CORP., $31.10, New York symbol NCR, makes automated teller machines (ATMs), cash registers, self-serve checkouts and kiosks for theatres and arenas. The stock rose 11% this week in response to media reports that private equity investors may launch a takeover bid for NCR. The company has yet to comment on the rumour. Meantime, NCR’s revenue in the three months ended March 31, 2019, rose 1.3%, to $1.54 billion from $1.52 billion a year earlier. That beat the consensus forecast of $1.52 billion. If you disregard exchange rates, revenue gained 4%. ATM sales jumped 21.0% in the quarter as the company completed several orders. That offset weaker demand for services and other hardware. Earnings in the quarter fell 14.3%, to $0.48 a share from $0.56. Those figures exclude costs related to unusual items and a restructuring plan, which mainly focused on closing plants.
