(New York symbol MOT) received one share of Motorola Mobility for every eight Motorola shares they own. Following the distribution, the old Motorola changed its name to Motorola Solutions (see below) and consolidated its shares on a 1-for-7 basis. Motorola Mobility is riskier than Motorola Solutions. That’s because Motorola Mobility gets about 40% of its sales from Verizon Wireless, and demand for its phones could drop if Verizon starts selling the hugely popular Apple iPhone.
