AMAZON.COM INC., $1,607.95, symbol AMZN on Nasdaq, has cancelled its plan to build a new second headquarters in New York City. In 2017, the online retailer, based in Seattle, Washington, invited cities in the U.S. and Canada to submit proposals for its new second headquarters, called HQ2. In November 2018, Amazon decided to split HQ2 between two locations: New York City and Arlington, Virginia. The company also announced plans to build a smaller operation in Nashville, Tennessee. However, the plan has faced strong criticism from New York politicians. They feel the city and the state governments are offering Amazon exceedingly generous tax subsidies while cutting funding for other services. Amazon still plans to build new facilities in Arlington and Nashville. OUR RECOMMENDATION: Amazon.com is still a hold.
